Northam Follow the Dream Program
The Northam Follow the Dream program was established at Northam Senior High School in 2003. The program operates in partnership with Northam SHS, the Department of Education WA, and the Polly Farmer Foundation.
The program is open four afternoons per week in the dedicated Follow the Dream building in a heritage-listed building formerly used as the caretaker’s residence. The Centre has a kitchen and three separate learning areas where tutors provide students academic support and career advice. The learning areas have desktop and laptop computers along with a range of other learning materials.
Academic enrichment lies at the heart of the program, with each student offered literacy & numeracy support, specialist tutoring, personalised pathway plans, one-on-one mentoring, and practical experience. Students also engage in a range of extra-curricular activities that broaden their horizons, build resilience, develop confidence, and promote cultural pride throughout the academic year.
The program introduces students to a wealth of experiences, opens their eyes to a huge range of post-school pathways, and encourages them to dream big. Students who are part of the 'Follow the Dream Family' gain a sense of identity, belonging, and purpose. Not only do they embark on a positive post-school pathway, but they emerge as strong role models for their peers, siblings and broader community.
