Since 2022, Northam SHS has been looking at ways to revitalise the schools ‘House’ system, so students can connect and embrace with it more. We wanted students to recognise and have a better understanding of the House names, their origins, and corresponding colours. The need for uniforms and banners for each House was clear, with the designs to reflect and tell the story of ‘our school’. Recognition of our shared history with our First Nations people by having Aboriginal artwork and storytelling in the design, was also a significant element we wanted to include.
After also listening to the voice of our student leaders and student body, having an animal mascot for each House that they can affiliate with from the Northam area was also included. A key aspect of the House revitalisation was to not replace anything, but to enhance and strengthen our House system. You will see the near final drafts our Northam SHS House Shirt Designs that have recently been endorsed by our Northam SHS Board. We are in the final stages of feedback and consultation with students, staff, and school community, and hope to have these available to order in Term 2 2024.
